Fission-residues Produced in the Spallation Reaction
نویسنده
چکیده
Fission fragments from 1 A GeV U projectiles irradiating a hydrogen target were investigated by using the fragment separator FRS for magnetic selection of reaction products including ray-tracing and E-ToF techniques. The momentum spectra of identi ed fragments were analysed to provide isotopic production cross sections, ssion-fragment velocities and recoil momenta of the ssioning parent nuclei. Besides their general relevance, these quantities are also demanded for applications. Calculations and simulations with codes commonly used and recently developed or improved are compared to the data.

Basic research at GSI for the transmutation of nuclear waste
In the course of the concerted action “Lead for ADT”, which preceded the HINDAS project [1], an innovative experimental method has been developed at GSI-Darmstadt. This new approach is based on the inverse-kinematics method where a liquid-hydrogen target is bombarded with heavy projectiles. The reaction products are identified in-flight in mass and atomic number in a high-resolution spectromete...
متن کاملMeasurement of nuclide cross - sections of spallation residues in 1 A GeV 238 U + proton collisions
The production of heavy nuclides from the spallation-evaporation reaction of U induced by 1 GeV protons was studied in inverse kinematics. The evaporation residues from tungsten to uranium were identified in-flight in mass and atomic number. Their production cross-sections and their momentum distributions were determined. The data are compared with empirical systematics. A comparison with previ...
متن کاملSpallation reactions – physics and applications
Spallation reactions have become an ideal tool for studying the equation of state and thermal instabilities of nuclear matter. In astrophysics, the interactions of cosmic rays with the interstellar medium have to be understood in detail for deducing their original composition and their production mechanisms. Renewed interest in spallation reactions with protons around 1 GeV came up recently wit...
متن کاملA model for consecutive spallation and fragmentation reactions in inverse kinematics at relativistic energies
Secondary reactions induced by relativistic beams in inverse kinematics in a thick target are relevant in several fields of experimental physics and technology, like secondary radioactive beams, production of exotic nuclei close to the proton drip line, and cross-section measurements for applications of spallation reactions for energy production and incineration of nuclear wastes. A general mat...
متن کاملNew generation of measurements and model developments on nuclide production in spallation reactions
With its powerful installations, GSI, Darmstadt, provides unique conditions for fundamental and applied research on a variety of subjects in nuclear physics and other fields with heavy-ion beams of stable and radioactive species. Intensive work on nuclear data is being made e.g. on nuclear masses, half lives, nuclide yields from lowenergy fission, and nuclide production in spallation reactions....
